Volunteers serve 74,000 nutritionally balanced meals in our Dining Room each year.
We consider volunteers to be the heart of Rosie’s Place. They make a real difference by improving the quality of the lives of poor and homeless women and our work is made possible because of their willingness to give their time, energy and love.

When Rosie’s Place first opened its doors in 1974, the organization was run entirely by volunteers.  Today, volunteers are still critical to our ability to empower and support our guests.  We have volunteers working alongside staff members in virtually every program in our organization.  Our dedicated volunteers contribute over 60,000 hours of service annually - equivalent to 29 full-time staff members!  We have volunteers from all walks of life - students, families, individuals, religious organizations, corporations, groups of friends - just about anyone can find a place to offer their talents and skills at Rosie’s Place.  In fact, volunteers are so important to Rosie’s Place that they are eligible to run for annual election to our Board of Directors after volunteering 6 times in the last 6 months.

Volunteers are not extras - they are essential members of our community.  For example, each day we serve lunch and dinner to nearly 150 women and children at each meal with only 2 staff members.  These meals would not happen without the many wonderful volunteers who are willing to give their time and energy!

There are three ways to volunteer at Rosie’s Place:

Individual Volunteering - Individual volunteers are people from the community who commit to helping out on a regular basis.  We require a minimum commitment of volunteering twice a month on the same shift for at least 3 months.

Group Volunteering - All types of groups - including corporate, religious, youth, college and civic groups - are welcome to volunteer.  The majority of groups volunteer in the dining room either catering (donating, preparing, cooking and serving) or serving a meal.

Internships - Interns work alongside staff members in all programs.  We invite students to apply who wish to join our fight for justice for poor and homeless women.  We accept college-level interns who commit to a minimum of 8 hours per week for at least 3 months.
